1. Install and Setup

Follow the video below to have your new theme up and running in under 5 minutes.

To start the basic installation, navigate in the Wordpress Admin Menu to Appearance -> Themes. On the top of the theme page, click the Install Themes tab. Beneath that tab select the Upload link and browse until you find your wordpress theme .zip file. After it has uploaded, select the activation link and the installation process is complete.

Installation Errors: If you get an installation error when attempting to install the theme, be sure that you upload only the wordpress theme .zip file. For further installation help click here.

2. Permalinks

The default structure of a permalink uses the post ID as a unique identifier in the url: http://example.com/?p=23. For the SEO of your website is always better to use much friendly pemalinks as: http://example.com/2013/03/04/sample-post. Follow these basic steps to set permalinks:

  1. Go to "Settings  ›  Permalinks"
  2. Select your option of permalink structure in "Common Settings"
  3. Also you can change the category base and tag base (optional)
  4. Press Save Changes

Homepage

Setting up the homepage in Cadence.

Setting up the Homepage

To set up the homepage with slideshow, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new page by going to "Pages  ›  Add New"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the page (for example: "Home") and don't add content, leave it blank. Any content here will be ignored.
  3. Select "Template" called "Homepage" in "Page Attributes" metabox in the left column
  4. Press Publish and page will be saved
  5. Go to "Settings  ›  Reading"
  6. Check the radio button "A static page (select below)"
  7. Select "Front page:" called as created page (for example: "Home")
  8. Press Save Changes

Homepage is now set correctly. Don't be alarmed that the page is blank for now, now you need to create slides into a slideshow by following the instructions below.

Music

Setup the music page and add albums.

Setup the Music/Albums Page

To set up the albums page, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new page by going to "Pages  ›  Add New"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the page (for example: "Music")
  3. Select "Template" called "Music" in "Page Attributes" metabox in the right column.
  4. Press Publish and page will be saved

Albums page is now set correctly.

Adding Albums

To create album, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new album by going to "Albums  ›  Add New Album"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the album
  3. Fill in the "Content" of the album
  4. Fill in the optional information about album in "Album Options" metabox in the central column
  5. Upload album songs in "Songs of the Album" metabox in the central column
  6. Set featured image (album cover) in "Featured Image" metabox in the left column
  7. Press Publish

The first album is now created.


Media

Add Photos and Videos to your website.

Setting up the Photo Page

To set up the photos page, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new page by going to "Pages  ›  Add New"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the page (for example: "Photos")
  3. Select "Template" called "Photos" in "Page Attributes" metabox in the right column
  4. Press Publish and page will be saved

The photos page is now setup.

Creating Galleries

To create gallery, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new gallery by selecting "Add Media  ›  Create Gallery"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the gallery
  3. Fill in the "Content" of the gallery
  4. Upload gallery images in "Gallery Images" metabox in the central column
  5. Set featured image in "Featured Image" metabox in the left column
  6. Press Publish

The first gallery is now created.

Setting up the Video Page

To set up the photos page, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new page by going to "Pages  ›  Add New"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the page (for example: "Videos")
  3. Select "Template" called "Videos" in "Page Attributes" metabox in the right column
  4. Press Publish and page will be saved

The photos page is now setup.

Adding Videos

To add a new video, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a video by selecting "Videos  ›  Add New"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the video
  3. Fill in the "Video Details" for the video
  4. Select the feature this video checkbox in "Featured Video" metabox in the right column if you'd like to feature this video on the homepage and video page. (Optional)
  5. Set the featured image/video cover photo in "Featured Image" metabox in the right column
  6. Press Publish

Repeat this process to add more videos.


Tour

Add the latest tour and events to your website.

Setting up the Tour Page

To set up the tour page, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new page by going to "Pages  ›  Add New"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the page (for example: "Tour")
  3. Select "Template" called "Tour" in "Page Attributes" metabox in the right column
  4. Press Publish and page will be saved

The tour page is now set correctly.

Creating Tour Events

To create event, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new event by going to "GigPress  ›  Add a Show"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the event (name of the festival, concert etc.)
  3. Fill in the "Content" of the event
  4. Select an event date (required) in "Event Options" metabox in the central column, possibly also the another event options
  5. Set featured image in "Featured Image" metabox in the left column
  6. Press Publish

The event is now created.


Blog

Here's a brief information about how to install your WordPress theme from scratch

Setting up the Blog

To set up the blog page, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new page by going to "Pages  ›  Add New"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the page (for example: "Blog") and don't add content, leave it blank. Any content here will be ignored.
  3. Press Publish and page will be saved
  4. Go to "Settings  ›  Reading"
  5. Check the radio button "A static page (select below)" (if isn't already checked)
  6. Select "Posts page:" called as created page (for example: "Blog")
  7. Press Save Changes

The blog page is now set correctly.


Contact

Setup your contact page with Cadence's custom page template and contact features.

To set up the contact page, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new page by going to "Pages  ›  Add New"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the page (for example: "Contact").
  3. Select the "Contact" template from the page attributes metabox on the right side.
  4. After you have selected the "Contact" page template a new metabox will appear with room to paste a contact form shortcode. We recommend contact form 7 or gravity forms.
  5. Press Publish and page will be saved

The contact page is now set correctly.

Theme Options Panel

The theme options panel was designed for ease of use, but also maximum customization possibilities for Cadence.

Theme Options helps you to manage additional theme settings. Help information for the each option can be found directly in Theme Options.

You can manage the theme options by navigating to "Appearance  ›  Theme Options"


Menus

This section gives you an overview the basice setup and modificiation of the website menu.

This theme uses WordPress 3.0 Custom Menus, to setting up the navigation, follow these basic steps:

  1. Go to "Appearance  ›  Menus"
  2. Fill in the "Menu Name" (for example "Navigation") and press Create Menu
  3. In left column tick all "Pages" (Categories, Albums, Galleries, Videos, Tags etc. - you can activate in "Screen Options" on the top right of the page) what you want to place into navigation and press Add to Menu
  4. Navigation items you can sort by dragging as you need
  5. Select the created navigation in "Theme Locations" metabox in the left column and press Save
  6. New navigation has been created and now you can see it on the website

Page Templates

Cadence comes with several built in page templates for easy customization and flexibility.

Theme includes several predefined templates that can be used for any page. Simply select the desired template when you create page in the "Page Attributes" metabox in the right column.

  • Default Template - Default Page Template for Cadence.
  • Contact - Custom Contact Page Template.
  • Home - Custom Homepage Layout for Cadence.
  • Music - Custom Music Page to Display Albums on.
  • Photos - Custom Page to Display Photo Galleries on.
  • Tour - Custom Page to display GigPress Shows on.
  • Videos - Custom Page to display videos on.

The templates settings you can find in "Appearance  ›  Theme Options  ›  Reading (tab)"


Widgets

Learn more about the widgets available in Cadence and their usage.

Widget is a fancy word for tools or content that you can add, arrange, and remove from the sidebar(s) of your blog. Widgets make it easy to customize the content of your sidebar(s).

Custom Widgets

  • Cadence: Latest Tweets - Displays the latest tweet from your twitter account.
  • Cadence: Featured Album Widget - Displays the featured album.
  • Cadence: Recent Posts - Widget that displays the recent posts and featured image thumbnails.
  • GigPress (if installed) - Widget that displays the latest Tour Shows.
  • Mailchimp List Signup (if installed) - Widget that displays the newsletter signup form.
  • Responsive Video List Widget (if installed) - Widget that displays responsive videos.

Widget Areas

Theme has defined 6 widget areas:

  • Homepage Sidebar - Sidebar that appears on the homepage.
  • Blog Sidebar - Sidebar that appears on blog pages.
  • Contact Sidebar - Sidebar that appears on the contact page.
  • Footer [Left] - Footer sidebar that shows on the left side of the footer.
  • Footer [Center] - Footer sidebar that shows in the center of the footer.
  • Footer [Right] - Footer sidebar that shows on the right of the footer.

Shortcodes

Example shortcodes and information regarding shortcode use in Cadence.


Cadence comes standard with custom styled shortcodes for the plugin Symple Shortcodes. If you did the one click install this has already been included and installed. If not, you must install the symple shortcodes plugin in order to make use of them in the theme.

Twitter Setup

Learn how to setup the Twitter Widget and Twitter API.


For using Twitter widgets you'll need set the connection to Twitter API:

  1. Open https://dev.twitter.com/apps in your browser
  2. Login to your Twitter account
  3. Click Create a new application button
  4. Fill in the Application details. For example:
    • Name: GP App
    • Description: Twitter Feed App
    • Website: http://grandpixels.com
    • Callback: leave empty
  5. Check Yes, I agree in Developer Rules of the Road
  6. Fill in the Captcha
  7. Click Create your Twitter application and your application will be created
  8. Click Create my access token on Details tab
  9. Go to OAuth tool tab where you can copy your keys and tokens
  10. Go to your WordPress installation and go to "Appearance  ›  Theme Options  ›  Socials (tab)  ›  Twitter API (section)" where fill in the keys and tokens from created Twitter application
  11. Click Save Changes
